Astonishing group creations were unveiled for parents and visitors today as LCS 6th graders activated their Rube Goldberg inventions. The contraptions entailed elaborate arrangements of strings, pulleys, springs, ramps, funnels, levers, and all manner of kinetic objects. The Rube Goldberg Machine Contest is inspired by award-winning artist
Rube Goldberg whose “inventions” made fun of new technologies. Some of the simple tasks included opening a desk, stapling a paper, lowering candy into a mouth, taking a hat off someone’s head, starting a fan, stamping a letter, ringing a bell, scoring a goal, dropping a marble in a cup or bag, finishing a smiley face, and blow-drying
Mr. Huey’s hair.
