The Laboratory of Virtue

The Laboratory of Virtue
Frank Russel, Director of Athletics
Liberty Common scholar-athletes do exceptional work in the classroom and on the field of competition.   Across grades 6–12, 703 students answered the call of co-curricular athletics.  Many of these young men and women earned All-Conference and All-State honors, Academic All-State recognition, and league titles.

Up to now, these achievements have lived in isolation, confined to individual-team banquets.  This year marks a meaningful first:  Liberty Common Athletics will gather as one community to celebrate the full accomplishments of the 2025–2026 school year.

In its inaugural year, the All-Sports Banquet carries a deeper purpose.  Each team and athlete has confronted challenges and grown through them.  Here, we celebrate victories and the shared act of overcoming—reminding ourselves that true excellence is forged in struggle.  Coaches from every sport will speak, revealing how each contributes to the larger character of our athletic program.  A unified gathering like this builds pride in representing Liberty Common across 14 varsity and 12 junior-high teams.

The banquet also helps establish the standard for what it means to be a Liberty Common scholar-athlete.  Just as we honor academic excellence each year, we now honor the full pursuit of human flourishing—mind and body together.  We stand on the shoulders of giants by recognizing those who came before.  We inspire the next generation to reach higher.  Our seniors, having learned much in their four years, carry wisdom worth passing on.

We are proud to welcome as guest speaker Jeremy Copeland, former Director of Player Development at Colorado State University.  A combat veteran and Green Beret who served in Afghanistan and Iraq, Coach Copeland joined the Nevada football program before following Coach Norvell to CSU, where he assumed player development responsibilities.  He brings rare insight into athletics as a true laboratory for virtue—lessons forged in the Special Forces and refined at the college level student-athletes will find both timely and timeless.

This event closes the school year with meaning, cultivating camaraderie and esprit de corps across all programs.  Mark your calendars: Tue 26 MAY 2026 at 6:00PM in the Liberty Common High School Colosseum.  This is an event you will not want to miss.
