Love, Liberty, Community…
Raven Banning, Board of Directors

Welcome back to a brand-new school year at Liberty Common.

The LCS Board of Directors is excited to begin this year with (almost) all four campuses complete.

The new standalone junior high is both beautiful and functional, and it will allow the school to reach even more students with the education children at Liberty have been so blessed to receive.

With growth, of course, comes some growing pains.  Please take a moment to look over the drop-off and pick-up maps for each campus and stick to them.  It can be tempting to take a shortcut when running late—this happens, especially when taking students to multiple campuses.  These systems work when families follow them.  This shared effort is part of what makes this a community.

The seven-member, parent-led Board of Directors is exactly that—parents and volunteers.  Members give three years of time because they believe in Liberty Common School and want to see this community continue to grow and thrive.

Liberty was started by parents who saw a need for the kind of education they wanted for their children.  They took a leap, volunteered their time, and built what has now grown into four campuses.  The school was founded on the work of volunteers, and parents are still needed to help guide it into the future.

There are many ways to get involved.  Committees meet monthly and welcome more parents.  A list of the committees can be found on the school's governance page.  Reach out to any Board Member for more information.  Elementary teachers need help in their classrooms, upper-campus teachers often need help grading, and volunteers are needed for dances, festivals, Grandparents’ Day, musicals, sports, and much more.

For me, volunteering is how I found community here.

Last year, I was running late to the junior high when I received a call from a good friend asking where I was because my son was concerned.  She probably would not have known my phone number—or even who I was—if we had not spent the past few years volunteering at countless events together.  That is community: People looking out for one another.

I know so many students by name, even when I do not know their parents, simply because I have spent so much time at the campuses.  The kids see me in the halls and give me hugs.  Parents are welcomed and loved here.  That is something pretty special.

This community runs deep.  Liberty is more than a school—it is the Liberty Community.  Keeping it strong takes everyone.

Here is to another great year.

Love, Liberty, Community.
