Liberty Common School Names New Junior-High Principal
Liberty Common School
Liberty Common School Headmaster Bob Schaffer announced, today, the appointment of Mrs. Kathleen Kearney as Principal of Liberty Common Junior High School which is scheduled to open in a distinct facility in the fall of 2025. The new facility will house LCS’s 7th and 8th grades which, since 2010, have been included at the school’s high-school campus.
LCS added a second elementary campus in 2022. The expansion added fifty new students per grade to Liberty’s enrollment. That number will go up by 25 more students in 2029. The expanded numbers exceed classroom space at the high school.
Since joining Liberty Common High School (LCHS) in 2018 as Assistant Principal, Mrs. Kearney has overseen student life, cultivating a thriving academic and social environment for students. Prior to that, Kearney served as the principal of Colorado Preparatory Academy from 2012 to 2018. Mrs. Kearney has been part of the Liberty Common community since 2011 when her eldest son, Patrick (LCHS Class of 2024), began kindergarten at the school. She also has two sons currently attending LCHS: Caleb (11th grade) and Cameron (7th grade).
“Kathleen is the perfect academic leader to shape the next chapters in Liberty Common School’s history,” said Schaffer. “Her dedication to students, her professional classroom experience, and expertise as an instructional coach make her an ideal choice to helm Liberty’s new junior-high campus.”
Kearney’s broad educational background includes roles as assistant principal, academic dean, instructional coach, and lead teacher. These experiences have prepared her to continue guiding Liberty’s junior-high program and ensuring the school's mission and principles remain embedded at the new campus.
"I am truly humbled and excited to step into the role of principal at Liberty Common Junior High School," said Kearney. "Junior high is such a pivotal time in students’ lives and I am committed to maintaining what has always made Liberty Common distinctive—an environment where dedicated faculty and staff strive to make every student feel included, challenged, and inspired to achieve mature literacy. This new school will serve as a critical middle stage in our students' developmental journey between our two elementary campuses and our high school, extending the impact of the Liberty Common advantage to thousands more students in the years to come."
As Liberty Common School continues to grow, the new junior-high campus will enhance the school’s commitment to delivering a classical, liberal-arts education rooted in virtuous character, the acquisition of knowledge, and college preparation.
