Kindness on our Didaskaleion

Kindness on our Didaskaleion
Mark Dollar, Board of Directors
Kindness—the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate.1 Each visit to any Liberty campus is usually a strong reminder of the family and community enjoyed here at LCS. That said, too often parents and faculty/administrative staff have mentioned the increased occurrences of honking in the drop-off/pick-up lanes, failure to yield when general courtesy dictates one should, and an overall lack of kindness and consideration in instances where these traits should abound (e.g., high-traffic areas when children are present). Please, let’s all take a pause and do our best to show kindness and give each other grace while transiting through our campuses—we can minimize the unkind and less considerate acts and ensure we send these young scholars off on a joyful note. One considerate act we all appreciate is when vehicles pull as far forward as possible in the drop-off/pick-up lanes to ensure maximum room for following vehicles to cue in behind us.

As a community built upon the principles of virtuous living, let’s all take the opportunity to lead by example, demonstrating to our children patience and respect are just as essential in the school parking lot as they are in the classroom. A small gesture of kindness—allowing another car to merge, offering a wave of thanks, or taking an extra moment to ensure a child safely exits a vehicle—goes a long way in reinforcing the character we strive to instill in our students.

Director of Security

Ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for our students is a high priority, and Liberty Common School’s newly appointed Director of Security, Mr. Jim Ramirez, is already making an impact. With over 20 years of experience in security and crisis management, Jim is dedicated to proactive approaches to campus safety, emphasizing prevention, preparedness, and responsiveness.

As Jim familiarizes himself with our campuses, we encourage each parent to take a moment to introduce themselves when they see him. The more Jim gets to know the Liberty family, the more effectively he can assess and enhance security measures. His ability to quickly recognize members of our community plays a crucial role in strengthening the safety and wellbeing of students, staff, and visitors alike. Jim’s bio can be found by CLICKING HERE.

Board-of-Directors Openings

Another way to contribute to Liberty’s success is by serving on the Board of Directors (BOD). Liberty Common School’s Board is seeking dedicated individuals to fill three open Director positions, each carrying a three-year term commencing this June. Elections for these positions will be held the third week of April. For details on requirements to serve as a Member of the Board of Directors, please refer to Section 2.5 of the School Policies Manual.

Serving on Liberty’s seven-member, parent-volunteer Board is a meaningful way to shape the future of our school. The Board is responsible for maintaining educational and fiduciary policies that uphold Liberty’s mission, philosophy, and vision as defined in our Charter contract, bylaws, and Board policies. Ideal candidates are passionate about Liberty’s classical-education model and eager to take on a leadership role in ensuring the school's continued success. Board service is an opportunity to make a lasting impact on our students, faculty, and families by guiding strategic decision-making and upholding the high standards defining our institution.

If you are interested in serving or have questions about what Board service entails, please reach out to Board Director Elizabeth Timpe or any other Board member. We would love to share more about this vital leadership role. Complete your Board application HERE. The application deadline is 4:00PM on Wed 5 Mar 2025.

By working together—whether through small acts of kindness, getting to know our security leadership, or stepping up to serve on the Board—we continue to build a stronger Liberty Common School community. Thank you for being an essential part of our mission to create an environment where students thrive.
