Blessings of Liberty

Liberty Common students are experiencing the blessings of liberty as they embark upon another inspiring school year.

The Preamble to the United States Constitution—memorized and recited by every second-grade student, studied more deeply in fourth grade, examined vigorously in eighth-grade history, and internalized through thoughtful study and discourse in their high-school American-government course—declares:

“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”

At Liberty, students do not merely know about the Constitution.  They actually know it.

The blessings of a Liberty Common education flow from those greater blessings of liberty the Constitution was written to secure.

Liberty Common students are blessed with an education that, from the first day of school, places knowledge at the center.  In the elementary and junior-high grades, the Core Knowledge Sequence builds an accelerated, coherent foundation.  In high school, this foundation is deepened through a refined, classical, liberal-arts curriculum.  Knowledge matters at every level.

LCS students are blessed with an education prioritizing character and virtue formation.  Good character is a habit, and Liberty Common School invests thirteen years in helping students internalize virtue.  Benjamin Franklin was right:  “Only a virtuous people are capable of [liberty].”

They are blessed with a school honoring the Universal Truth:  It is the right and responsibility of parents to direct the education and upbringing of their children.  The school exists to support that sacred charge so the blessings of liberty may be secured “to ourselves and our Posterity.”

Another inspiring school year has begun and the work of securing the blessings of liberty for Liberty Common students is underway once more.  Armed with knowledge and virtue, they are becoming the self-governing citizens our republic requires.
