Another Day, But Not Today

As we move forward into the school year, it is important to remember safety and security are always at the forefront of LCS.  Staff and students have participated in emergency drills to strengthen preparedness for any emergency.  While the school hopes never to face an actual emergency, staff and students know preparation for an emergency of any kind is essential.  

Ongoing security meetings and proactive measures ensure we continue to keep LCS safe and secure from any emergency that should arise. We are prepared, we are ready, and we approach this responsibility with the winning mindset.

I am reminded of a story I once heard from Ronaldo Monaceli, a World War II tank gunner from Wisconsin.  Ronnie told me about his first weeks as a tank gunner and the training he received during World War II.  During his early training, he and his fellow Soldiers were given merely pieces of paper reflecting the enemy and friendly planes. Ronni said they would sit in the tank and wait for someone to sprint by as fast as they could, holding the paper.  They had to decide within seconds whether to shoot or not. Ronnie explained it was not complicated training, but if you got it wrong, the consequences were devastating. Ronnie was prepared mentally for when the day would come to man the tank against enemy planes. Ronnie weathered many battles and made it back home to Wisconsin, thanks to that winning mindset.  

His story reminds me how preparation and readiness are not just about drills, but about commitment to face challenges with clarity and confidence.   At LCS, we share that same commitment.  Staff and students are trained and supported so, when the day comes to respond to any emergency, everyone is equipped to do so calmly and effectively.

The day may come when we are tested with an emergency.  When that day does present itself, we will be able to say, we knew this day would come and we are ready. LCS students will continue to thrive in a safe and secure environment because we will not live in fear for it will be “another day, but not today.”
