Great Books Symposium 2019Last week’s “Great-Books Symposium” turned out to be a beautiful explanation of Liberty Common School’s philosophy about its reading list, and the literary qualities we look for when adding books to the list of those meeting the standards of a truly great book. Kudos to Liberty’s librarian Mrs. Paige Gowing for organizing and leading the symposium. Gowing is a former Liberty student herself, a fact explaining her personal enthusiasm for acquainting Liberty students with books they ought to be reading. The gathering occurred in the Constance Behr Memorial Library at the elementary school. Mrs. Gowing invited all Liberty parents and students to contact her for help selecting age-appropriate books aligned with the school’s Core Knowledge Sequence, and school-wide curricular objectives.
