LCHS SealFORT COLLINS, COLORADO— Liberty Common High School’s incoming senior class earned the state’s highest total mean SAT score, according to 2019 results released this week by the Colorado Department of Education. The class’ composite score is 1315.

The SAT assessment predicts college success; and is administered to all eleventh-grade students in more than 540 public-high schools throughout Colorado. For the second year in a row, Liberty Common, a Poudre School District charter school, has earned the state’s top score.

The state’s second-place score of 1272 was achieved by incoming seniors at D’Evelyn High School in Jefferson County.

Liberty Common School Headmaster Bob Schaffer said, “The entire community is so proud of the mighty LCHS Class of 2020. These students have worked hard over the years to scale up their knowledge through the powerful Core Knowledge sequence we use in grades K through eight, and then to conquer our rigorous classical, college-preparatory, high-school coursework. Our professional, college-level instructors definitely expect a lot of our students, but the students themselves cheerfully apply the effort needed to earn outstanding scores like these. The results belong to the students who earned them.”

Kelly Notarfrancesco, Chairman of Liberty Common School’s parent-led Board of Directors, credits the remarkable SAT score to the quality of the curriculum and the work ethic of the students and faculty, and also points out that parental support plays a key role at Liberty. “Liberty emphasizes academic excellence in the areas of science, math, engineering, economics, literature, foreign language, and history, in addition to promoting character education,” Notarfrancesco said. “By combining Liberty's robust academic curriculum, expert instruction from our incredible staff, and invaluable parental support, our students take advantage of their educational opportunities by working hard and then experiencing the outstanding results. We are incredibly proud of our dedicated seniors,” Notarfrancesco added

Liberty Common High School is a tuition-free, college-preparatory, public, charter school. Children of all Colorado residents are eligible to attend. The school offers a classical, liberal-arts curriculum.

The school emphasizes high-level instruction in math, science and engineering. Liberty’s Latin and economics programs begin in kindergarten and continue through high school.

“Our students and their families work together with the school to achieve results like these,” Schaffer said. “Consistently high SAT scores definitely open doors to great colleges for our students.

“Liberty’s instructors love seeing results like this, too. They do whatever it takes to prepare each and every Liberty student for college success and a lifetime of prosperity” added Schaffer.
